There is a beautiful book I read many years ago, A Gift From the Sea, written by Anne Morrow Lindbergh.
I haven’t touched a copy in many years and I may not have her message 100% right but this is what I remember, and this is what has stayed with me.
Media has made it possible for us to know what is happening on all corners of the earth, at all times. While this is exciting, it also weighs heavily on us as we often hear of disasters and devastation.
We want to help but often feel sad and ineffective because of the great distances between us.
Her message was that we mustn’t forget to look at the people immediately around us, because this is where we can have the greatest impact. This is where it is well within our scope to make a difference.
If each of us, spreads even a small measure of human kindness to those in our immediate circle, that circle will grow. Kindness is spirituality. There is nothing to seek, just be kind.
