Loves

I am ridiculously passionate about yoga, and very eager to share that passion.

I love being the mother of two beautiful girls.

I love teaching and running my yoga studio, Semperviva. We have a great community of students! Our goal was to make yoga accessible to people of all ages and all abilities. We have made it our purpose to create a welcoming, supportive environment for people to come and practice yoga, and we have been blessed with an amazing community of students.

I love the full moon but it does keep me up very late at night

I love farmer’s markets and purchasing food that has been handled very little before it reaches my table

I love basil. I grow it in rows in my garden

I hate yoga clothes with super tight elastics. Can someone please make a yoga top I can breathe in?

I love Nia Vardalos for capturing the humour of being first generation Greek in My Big Fat Greek Wedding. I promise you, nothing was exaggerated in that movie

When I grow up, I would love to have a goat. And I would really love to learn how to make cheese

I own 17 olive trees, and someday I’d like to have a yoga/olive harvest retreat

I am very fortunate that my work is something I love. I don’t have a distinction between work and play. I love it all.

I love all yoga styles, but Kundalini in particular. I love the way Kundalini yoga makes me feel. Kundalini helps you feel better fast. It is the most efficient yoga I know. You can work physically hard, chant, meditate, dance and sing all in an hour and fifteen minutes. I love teaching it, because it requires less “technical instruction” and thus there are more periods of silence that allow students to go inside and discover themselves.

I love Tom Jones music.

Favourite Music
M
y newest favourite is Trevor Hall. Have a listen to Om Shakti Om, on i-tunes. You’ll love it.
My all time favourite, is definitely
Bhagavan Das
I’m also a big fan of
David Newman and of course Krishna Das. All three of these artists have amazing soulful voices.
If I’m in a quiet mood, I love to listen to
Satnam Kaur or Donna De Lory.

Favourite Books
I love to learn by reading stories.
Books I have really enjoyed include:

Shantaram
Holy Cow
Idiot’s Guide to Enlightenment
A Gift From the Sea

Bhagavan’ Das book I
t’s Here Now (Are You?) is a must read. It is a riveting page turner. One man’s journey from spiritual seeker to car salesman, to born again Christian and the journey continues. Bhagavan told me, that his first “spiritual epiphany” occurred in a monastery right across the way from where we hold our Yoga Retreats in Kythira, Greece in a tiny town called Monemvasia.

Of course every yoga teacher must have the following:
Donna Farhi’s Body, Breath and Movement
BKS Iyengar’s Light on Life
Raja Yoga by Swami Vivekananda
